Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Meeting by telehealth means that you will be in one location and I will be in another, while we meet over a secure digital platform. All you need is a private place you are comfortable in, an internet connection or cellular data, and an electronic device that can use Zoom or our backup telehealth platform.

  • Ultimately, meeting with a therapist is a relationship, and it is important that you feel comfortable working with whoever you pick. I offer a free 15 minute consultation call before scheduling a first appointment so that we can talk together about what you’re looking for and how I can help. This also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have about working together.  I hope we are a good fit, but if we aren’t, I can help connect you with other therapists who might be a better match.

  • The standard rate for each 35-60 minute session is $150, but we can discuss options if you need help paying for therapy. I have a limited number of reduced fee spots based on financial need, and believe therapy should be accessible to everyone. If I’m not a fit then I’d be happy to help connect you with other therapists in the area.

  • Whether we use art during our appointments is always up to you. It is ok if you make art once, never, or sometimes. Art therapy is another way to process whatever you bring to our appointments, especially when it can be hard to put some experiences into words. If you would rather we go the traditional talk therapy route, that is completely ok!

You don’t need fancy supplies to try art therapy; We can use anything from pens and pencils, to paints and magazine collage images. Art therapy isn’t about making perfect art. It’s about the process of creating it and being curious about whatever it brings up for you.

  • I work from a humanistic, client-centered perspective, which means I treat each person as a unique individual, tailoring tools to what is a good fit for them, with a focus on self-exploration, your strengths, and values, so that you can make positive changes.

I have training in, and incorporate strategies from evidenced based practices including acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy (I-CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD, and trauma informed care. Let me know if you’d like to know more about any of these approaches!

  • Yes! I received my master’s degree from The George Washington University’s Art Therapy and Counseling Program, and am a licensed art therapist (LCPAT) and licensed counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and licensed counselor (LPC) in Virginia.

  • That’s ok! Take your time. We can start wherever you want, whether that’s big news in your life or what you love about your favorite movie. If you’d like, I have questions to get us started, but you don’t have to have a therapy to-do-list and not all appointments look the same. No pressure, no rush.

  • Oh, absolutely not. You won’t find any toxic positivity here. Sometimes something sucks and that’s ok. Bring on all the feelings, whatever they may be.
